What a rare event: politicians acting like complete tools

Although I'm sure that Dubya was hardly pleased that he was a repeated target of some of David Letterman's jabs, this convenient little "controversy" strikes me as proof that both Sarah and Todd Palin are frickin' lunatics.

I especially love this part:

Todd Palin issued a statement that said "any 'jokes' about raping my 14-year-old are despicable."

Riiiiiiiiight.

What Letterman actually said was something a bit, oh, less than that:

Letterman said "an awkward moment" occurred for Palin when, "during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by (Yankee third baseman) Alex Rodriguez."

Apparently, in Todd Palin's strange little world, the phrase "knocked up" translates to "having been raped" as opposed to "having been made pregnant via consensual sex", which is how most people use it. Why, there's even a Seth Rogen comedy that used that phrase in exactly that fashion! Imagine that!

Now never mind the fact that Letterman has already apologized to that pair of North Woods dingbats for making a joke that wasn't intended as a barb aimed at the Palin's younger daughter; the statement made by Palin mouthpiece Meghan Stapleton that  "it would be wise to keep Willow (Palin) away from David Letterman" hints that, well, gee, he must be a pervert, since he made a topical joke that we chose to selectively - and conveniently -misunderstand.

Note to Sarah Palin: the only word I can think of to describe you is "useless".

Note to Todd Palin: go back to stalking state troopers. It's safer.

You think he would've learned from Michael Hutchence

The creepiness surrounding David Carradine's demise continues.

For anyone who might've asked if Viagra or something else might've helped Carradine out of whatever sexual funk he was in, my guess is that it was less an inability to actually perform The Big Nasty (whether alone or with a partner) than it was in getting a bigger kick out of TBN. Sure, he could've eaten X until the very wind caused him to get aroused, but considering his former chemical dependency problems he'd probably rather not do that. Hence, the state he was in when they found him and the reason why he did it.

"Silence is the enemy" - too true

This touches on the subject of Darfur, but Tara C. Smith's post on Scienceblogs on the subject of rape as a tool of warfare encompasses all of the recent ugliness such a "military tactic" has wrought.

Pay attention, kids

You use email. I use email. Court cases like this will determine the privacy of that email you read and send, so this is more than a bit important.

Writer's Block: Raving about Rants

[Error: unknown template qotd]What's my favorite rant? The rant I'm writing right now. Right now, some moron is running around wondering if his Tivo recorded his favorite piece of reality TV filth, and is fretting away precious seconds of his life worrying if his local church/peer group/parents will approve of the new girl he thinks he's dating because she smiled at him while serving him the fat-filled deathburger he ordered at a local fast food place where guys constantly "eat" in the back while dealing meth. They're no better than him but they make more money because they don't work at the crappy quickie-mart that he does for 35 cents above minimum wage. His life is a neat, plastic-wrapped sham with no imagination, no future and no class, but he's worried about those dangerous scumbags who rather read books he's scared of and listen to music that would cause him to foul his panys even if the volume was turned down to 5 decibels. People like this MAKE ME SICK, because they....

Uh, sorry.

What was the original question, again?
