When boredom kicks in, write derisively of those who deserve it (the updated version)

You can tell I'm bored when I start bringing up 20 or so people (individuals or classes) I can't stand.

The only common denominator is that they've either done or written something that makes me wonder if humanity is really worth anyone's time, much less mine.

Be forewarned: you may have to do some research.

(NOTE: silly me - I should've included links as evidence that the following individuals got their just deserts. Fair enough. I also kept some murderous sociopaths [read: people I've mentioned before like Bashir in the Sudan and Kony in Uganda] off the list just because they don't deserve to be figures of amusement  - they deserve a lot more than that in terms of punishment, but that's not what this list was intended for.)

Media Creatures

Glenn Beck (for being nuts)

Paris Hilton (for being inspiration to a legion of similarly untalented bottle blondes and amateur porn actresses)

John Kass (for apparently wanting to become Chicago's answer to Glenn Beck)

Practically all "reporters" and "editors" from infotainment programs ranging from Entertainment Tonight to Access Hollywood to Cocaine Addicted Celebutante Nightly Report (okay, so that last one's a fake - soon, it probably won't be) [1]

Political Things I had to scrape off of my shoe

blue dog health care reform "negotiator" Senator Max Baucus

disgraced former Governor Rod Blagojevich

falangist lunatic Dick Cheney

weaselly former George Ryan henchman Scott Fawell

creationist mushwit Governor Bobby Jindal

lobotomized former Governor Sarah Palin

disgraced current governor Mark Sanford

Sports Figures of little - and I do mean little - renown

Milton Bradley, for being a whiner who cries wolf and - predictably - runs away

Plaxico Burress, for not buying a proper gun holster

Mike Ditka, for thinking his opinion on Jay Cutler matters

Patrick Kane, for being clueless and violent outside of a hockey rink

Shawne Merriman, for already assuming he's in the clear on potential domestic battery charges

Three more starting with the letter B - sort of

Birthers

Bernard Madoff

Patrick Buchanan

Dishonorable Mention

The entire former U of I Board of Trustees

[1] These shows really don't rate a link - look, you can't even turn on your TV without having this crap thrust in your face on a nearly 24-7 basis, so why should they get any more free publicity?

I also hate almost all of these people, except for the sports ones because I don't pay attention to sports and I don't really know who those people are except for Mike Ditka.

On the sports selections

Odd thing is, practically all of my selections for Schmuck of the Moment from the world of sports got there for reasons *other* than their play, which can be made irrelevant by dint of being a good player on a lousy team, or vice versa. Two of those guys either assaulted or help assault somebody; one stuck a gun in his wasteband and accidentally shot himself as a result; one pulled a huge public whine about the supposed racism of his fans and then walked away from the charge when reporters pressed him on what he meant; and one of them wants to play at being a sports pundit when he hasn't coached in years or played in decades.

The last guy in the above list is, indeed, Mike Ditka. Amuse yourself by guessing who the others are if you're reaaaaaaally bored.
