Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Representative Pete DeGraaf, member of Congress and all-around steaming pile of crap. And the fact that he's an associate pastor makes him even more of one.
I realize most people will (quite rightly) criticize the tastelessness of his analogy; but it also happens to make the case against his own argument.
I, and the vast majority of Americans, carry a spare tire in my car precisely because I have not thought about it in advance. That spare tire came with my care when I purchased it; and by default. The only reason why I'm aware I have a spare tire is because it is visible. I would have to actually expend time and energy to remove it.
Using his very own logic; the type of insurance he is talking about should be provided by default as well.
