More trouble in Murdochistan
Jul. 7th, 2011 06:45 pmRupert must be hating life right now, and for good reason.
The phone hacking scandal that his tabloid News of the World engendered has bore some genuinely poisonous fruit; News is closing down in the wake of the scandal; reporter Andy Coulson is probably going to be arrested on July 8th as a result of his role in the scandal (which also serves to embarass current British PM David Cameron, since Coulson was his director of communications prior to joining the News); everybody from AdWeek to Media Matters is getting their jollies out of this scandal, and - in what might be a particularly colossal sin in Murdochistan - News Corp's holdings are losing shitloads of money over this mess.
In my opinion, it couldn't happen to a more deserving guy, but then I find it somewhat difficult to take pity on a multi-billionaire who made a large portion of his money off of dayglo-bright yellow journalism that would've made William Randolph Hearst blush in his prime.
