Earthworks by Brian W. Aldiss. It's been a while since I picked up a new one, but the chaos that a l*y*ff (or a R*d*ct**n *n f*rc*, if you like more Orwellian language) brings at one's (former) place of employment will knock any devoted SF reader off of his/her/its game.
