the_archfiendGranted, I heard this on the radio (WBEZ?) earlier, but I took a look at the web site and apparently it's true; Sam's Wines and Spirits' downtown store has sank like a rock, contrary to the belief that liquor sales are recession-proof. Only their Lincoln Park monstrosity and Highland Park and Downers Grove stores remain.
As someone who's constantly looking for good sources of import and microbrew beers (and - let's face it - just plain booze that isn't mere paint thinner), here's hoping that none of the Binny's stores go the way of the passenger pigeon for similar reasons.
