For those of you not looking at the web site for some strange reason right now, here 'tis...

(And for those of you interested, here's the link to the anime room schedule as well...)

And now, the usual peevish observations:

I may actually be able to mosey on into opening ceremonies for once. Maybe. Yaaaaaay.

As a co-minion in a department and a co-host in a room party (free clue: "Yaaaaaaaarr!"), my decision to not sign up to be a panel participant was a wise one, since I'm sure that Bill Higgins probably gets an odd glint in his eye whenever he recalls that I did sign up for one once and didn't show since it was scheduled during - you guessed it - hotel check-out. I later apologized, of course. Hence, the reason I'm still around to write this and not a brain in a jar somewhere.

Thursday, 5:50 PM, Lake Michigan A: You...you did say that there were going to be snacks, right...?

Friday, 2:30 PM, Elm room: my snarky answer is that they all speak English for the same reason that everyone in Doctor Who does and why everyone in anime speaks Japanese. I hope this doesn't poop your party too much, but let's face it - SF writers are as linguistically Not With It as everybody else. Plus, it takes time to research other languages - if you're not James Joyce or similarly multilingual, chances are you're screwed.

Friday, 4PM, Willow A: as somebody who's been following this art form for well over 20 years, let me state calmly that you need to be there or I shall contact the Dragon, who still thinks you are yummy and crunchy and good with Ketchup. There, that wasn't so hard now, was it?

Friday, 8:30 PM, Elm room:  This isn't the first time you've heard or read this about Harlan. It won't be the last, either.

Saturday, 10AM, Autograph Table: As I'm reading Gateway right now, I only need to say this much: you need a special note from your camp counselor to not be here to have Fred sign whatever you bring. Period.

Saturday, 1PM, Birch B room: see directly above. Why, oh why did this get scheduled when I'm busy?

Sunday, 10 AM, Elm room: Hi, guys. The discussion is up as a reminder through sffan_chicago. The snarky comment here has been changed, since pyropyga/Redag pointed out that there are reasons why my brain should be in a jar, not the least of which is my occasional poor recall of past events.

Tramonto's looks good. It also looks expensive. What a shock.

Lastly, for safety's sake, read this damn paragraph!:

No Liquor in the Lobby

"Please remember that you may not transport any container that obviously contains alcohol through the lobby of the hotel. Any bottles must be in a box. That box cannot have the name of the alcohol on the side of it. Any box or container that obviously contains alcohol WILL BE CONFISCATED BY THE HOTEL. This is hotel policy. Rubbermaid containers are your friend."

The con hasn't even been held yet and I've already got a peeve with the Westin.

(Two, actually. I don't know which party suite I'm supposed to be in, either. Big whoop.)

Sunday, 10 AM, Elm room: Hi, guys. The notice is getting repeated via sffan_chicago, of course. I take it that the discussion's time didn't go over too well last year since you scheduled it during peak room party hours...

Actually, February 2008 was World War Z, which went over pretty well, though I don't recall the time we were scheduled for then. Room party hours? At 10AM? Surely you must mean people still being _asleep_ at that hour? We would have preferred Saturday, but this being Phandemonium's con they get first dibs and while I don't see any issue with two discussions in one day (we were back to back at Windy, after all) that's not my call. :)

Mea culpa! No, really!

I looked at my yahoogroup's old calendar. It was 5pm in 2008, and believe you me I'm chanding that paragraph *now*. It wasn't all that good a comment in comparison to my smartassery on the Ellison panel.

The "room party hours" comment was in response to the 2008 discussion, not this year's; for some reason I misremembered (geez, is that even a word?) it as being at 10PM on Saturday. If it was, you *would've* been screwed.
