I greatly admired Schorr's commentaries on NPR, and although I realized he wasn't exactly in the bloom of youth he didn't sound nearly as old as his 93 years. Plus, he ended being investigated by the FBI on Tricky Dick's orders (and later ended up on his Enemies List as a result) for asking too many good questions, and if that isn't a ringing endorsement of a journalistic career I don't know what is.
Probably the best part of the Enemies List story is the punchline, of course:
Newsman Daniel Schorr, as well as actors Paul Newman and Carol Channing have stated, separately, that inclusion on the list was their greatest accomplishment. When this list was released, Schorr read it live on television, not realizing that he was on the list until he came to his own name.
