Dave Kovarik practically had to whack me over the head with the news of Buckley's passing (especially in the wake of Daniel Schorr's death), but I used to catch his show on WBEZ whenever the mood hit. Although his area of emphasis wasn't quite mine - my favorite types of jazz extend from the beginning of bebop in the 40's through hard bop, free jazz and the more cutting-edge variety of jazz-rock fusion - he played so much quality stuff that it didn't matter.
Even though he'd been retired for a few years and WBEZ doesn't even play jazz at nights locally, I still can't get his gravelly baritione voice out of my head. He'll be missed.
